HLA is a company grounded in Christian values of humility, honesty, integrity, respect, kindness, and a sense of community responsibility. Our primary purpose is to follow God’s leadership to provide the highest level of compassionate care and treatment for all the people we serve.

Our founder
Hettie Legg followed a calling into speech pathology and community care.
Hettie Legg first discovered Speech Language Pathology while attending Auburn University, after hearing a classmate describe working on speech with a child with Down Syndrome. That moment sparked her curiosity, led her into research and clinical hours, and shaped the direction of her life's work.
After earning her bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology from Auburn University in 1969 and her master's degree from Michigan State University in 1970, Hettie worked in public schools before moving to Nacogdoches with her husband in 1973. She taught at SFASU, but she always felt called toward private practice.
In June 1981, Hettie opened the first speech pathology private practice in Nacogdoches. What began as a hope to serve a few morning patients quickly grew into something much larger, as families across the community sought her help. That early response became the foundation for Hettie Legg & Associates and the multidisciplinary clinic HLA is today.
